MSS Colchester Kawasaki British Superbike star Alex Lowes is becoming the super-sub rider of choice as Castrol Honda have named him to stand-in for the injured Jonathan Rea at the next World Superbike round in Brno.
Lowes, who is deputising for Stuart Easton in Nick Morgan's outfit, will race in WSBK at Brno next month and then at the British round at Silverstone at the end of July if Rea is still out of action.
"The first thing I want to say is that I hope Jonathan’s injuries heal quickly and that he’s back on the bike soon. It’s never ideal getting a ride because another rider has been hurt, but it’s now happened to me twice this season," said the youngster.
"Having said that, this is an incredible opportunity for me – I keep pinching myself because I’m riding for one of the world’s best race teams in the World Superbike championship. I know I have a lot to learn but I want to make the most of this and repay Castrol, Honda and the whole team for the faith they’ve shown in me.
"To first be offered the MSS ride, then an opportunity in World Superbikes is incredible and I’d like to thank Nick and the team for being so understanding. My main focus is still on the BSB Championship and getting into that top six Shootout for Kawasaki. Snetterton is up next before the WSB round so that is the priority.”
