Aragon WorldSBK: Davies fastest in second practice

GoEleven Ducati’s Chaz Davies topped the afternoon WorldSBK free practice at Motorland Aragon with a three-tenth advantage over long-time rival Jonathan Rea but it was Toprak Razgatlioglu who ended Friday on top with his time from this morning.

As the temperatures rose in Spain for session two, Davies managed a 1’50.400 on his satellite Panigale V4R which was a half a second down on Razgatlioglu’s free practice one time.

Both of this weekend's long races will be held at the same time as free practice two, so race simulation runs were expected but no-one managed more than nine laps in a row, and BMW's Michael van der Mark gets the dubious honour of first crasher as he parked his M1000RR on the Recticel at turn eight.

Davies had been lacking in sector three this morning on his way to a 1'50.260 but some setup changes saw him set the quickest sector time there this afternoon on his way to topping the sheet and clawing his way into the top speed top ten (see below).

Both Garrett Gerloff and Alex Lowes didn't improve on their morning times but six-time champion Jonathan Rea did, lowering his time from a 1'50.834 this morning to a 1'50.690 for fifth overall.

Rea's main title rival Scott Redding also found time this afternoon, slicing half a second off his time to set a 1'50.780 on his 16th lap. He was one place behind new team-mate Michael Rinaldi overall and ahead of fellow MotoGP exile Alvaro Bautista. The HRC man chopped two-tenths off his time to bag eighth.

Team-mate Leon Haslam finished in tenth, one behind Tom Sykes while van der Mark relied on his morning time for 11th place with only three laps on the board after lunch.
