Aruba Ducati’s Scott Redding made up for his earlier disappointment with the WorldSBK race two victory this afternoon at Motorland Aragon.
Redding gambled on Pirelli slicks all round and it paid off as he hit the front on a drying track and cleared off into the distance, leaving the works Kawasakis and BMWs to fight for the podium spots.
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) was knocked off track by the ambitious attempted pass of fast starter Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha) but both riders got going again, Gerloff from full crash mode.
Rea made a measured recovery from his unscheduled excursion to take a clear second place, despite strong pressure from his own team-mate Alex Lowes, who finished third today to take three podiums in three races.
Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) made up huge ground to score fourth place, passing from his midfield start to end up just 1.6 seconds from a podium place. He was running inter/inter tyres.
Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven Ducati) was to fall early on but Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) looked ready for a podium place until he dropped back, finishing fifth. Another potential podium rider, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was sixth, ten seconds from Rea’s second place final pace.
Gerloff was a final seventh, with rookie rider Jonas Folger (Bonovo Racing MGM BMW) eighth. Two more rookies, Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team) and Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) rounded out the top ten places.
