Goldbet BMW's Chaz Davies has taken his first ever World Superbike double win today at Motorland Aragon, crossing the line in race two some five seconds ahead of Sylvain Guintoli with Tom Sykes in third.
But it was disaster again for Aprilia's Eugene Laverty who crashed out of the race on lap one, losing the front through the second corner which added to his retirement from race one and means he leaves Spain with no points on the board.
Laverty's exit left Kawasaki's Sykes in the lead with Davies second but the Welshman grabbed the lead when Sykes ran wide off the back straight, got his head down and put in consistently fast laps to pull out a big lead. The second win promotes him to second in the title chase.
Sykes had no response to the BMW man and concentrated on fending off his team-mate Marco Melandri and Althea Aprilia's Davide Guigilano, the latter giving him a hard time over the final six laps as Melandri dropped off the pace but Sykes was able to hold on for his first points score of the day.
Loris Baz fought is way from the back of the grid to take sixth place, ahead of countryman Jules Cluzel who had to start from pitlane after a problem on the startline. Carlos Checa took seventh with Leon Haslam eighth.
Haslam's team-mate Jonathan Rea pulled in with a brake problem on lap six but went back out after a spell in the garage, finishing 15th.
