Assen WSBK: Fourth for Camier is MV’s best-ever result

Britain’s Leon Camier took a hard-fought fourth place in the opening Assen World Superbike race today and gave MV Agusta easily their best-ever result in the championship.

Camier scrapped his way past the much faster Althea BMWs to work his way up the field and crossed the line for result he wasn’t expecting after just getting squeezed out of a qualifying two spot this morning.

“It was hard off the start and I kept getting caught up with the BMWs. Every time you get on to a straight, they pull right back to you. I can pass them in certain corners but to make the lunge and then keep them behind you is not so easy,” said Camier.

“My laptimes were pretty good, as fast as the leaders at times, so that’s pretty positive. We really could do with starting at the front with a bit more power. Nothing has changed with the bike since Aragon but you don’t need so much of it here as it’s a more flowing place.

“I know how to go quick around here normally, we got the chassis working pretty good but I think tomorrow will be harder. We had a few people go down in front of us which helps but my pace was good. We need a good start and to be strong in the first couple of laps, which is difficult to do here.

“Everyone in the team is peaking with the result, we are all so happy and it is so good to get a result for the guys as they are working their tits off.”
