Yakhnich Motorsport rider Sam Lowes finally beat rival MAHI Racing’s Kenan Sofuoglu to take the win in the World Supersport race at Assen this afternoon. The pair battled throughout the 21 -ap race, with Lowes eventually taking the top spot, after out-braking the Turkish rider in the final chicane.
This is the Brit’s first win of the year so far, and it catapults thim to third in the overall championship standings. The result was the complete opposite of what happened to the Yamaha rider at Aragon, when he had to retire on the last lap because of technical issues whilst leading the race. Sofuoglu’s team-mate Fabien Foret took the win there and Lowes was just happy that he managed to reach the top of the podium today.
“Aragon was disappointing, but today was fantastic. I always enjoy battling with Kenan and Fabien and maybe last week me and Fabien could have had a similar battle on the last lap,” said the Lincolnshire twin.
“I am really happy, the team deserve this and they have given me a fantastic bike all year, so thank you very much to everyone. It was a fantastic battle, and I think me and Kenan on the last lap both tried many things, so I am really happy to have come out on top.”
