Brad Ray, Valentino Rossi and MotoGP riders join latest 2024 WorldSBK test at Portimao

The second major unofficial pre-season test of the 2024 WorldSBK season is underway at Portimao with a handful of high-profile names joining the ranks alongside the usual favourites.

All WorldSBK teams that were present for the Jerez two-day test last week have made the trip over to Portugal for another two days of running, plus a handful of WorldSSP runners.

Notably, British favourite Brad Ray is also on track for the first time in 2024 as he gets to grips with his Motoxracing Yamaha R1.

The Briton, who revealed his machine at a launch in Italy earlier this month, only joined the WorldSBK ranks from Round 3 in 2023, but the 2022 BSB Champion will be present and correct for all 12 rounds of the 2024 season, which kicks off in Australia next month.

Also on track in Portugal are a handful of VR46 Academy riders looking to get some match fitness in aboard track day specification sportbikes, including Franco Morbidelli, Fabio di Giannantonio, Celestino Vietti, Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi, plus the even the man himself Valentino Rossi - who is busy readying himself for his third GT World Championship season - is also on track.

Missing, however, are the MIE Racing Hondas that will be campaigned by Tarran Mackenzie and Adam Norrodin, while Dominique Aegerter has been forced out again due to a viral infection that waylaid him at Jerez too.

We have full lap times and results later today and tomorrow as the test concludes. WorldSBK rookie Nicolo Bulega was the pace setter at Jerez last week.
