WSBK | JONES BADLY INJURED IN LAST-CORNER CRASH AT BRANDS

Britain’s Craig Jones has been airlifted to hospital following a massive crash in this afternoon’s World Supersport race at Brands Hatch.
The Parkalgar Honda man was dicing with Jonathan Rea for the lead when the rear tyre of his CBR600RR let go at Clark Curve and he was thrown across the track. It is believed he was struck by another bike.
3.55PM: We have just been informed that Craig is in a pharmacological coma and is being transferred to the nearest neurological unit after suffering a severe cranial trauma.
5.15PM: A statement from MSVR and FGSport reads: "During the FIM Supersport World Championship race at Brands Hatch today, rider Craig Jones crashed at Clark Curve and appeared to be struck by a following rider, sustaining a serious head injury.
"Craig was initially treated at the scene and was then transferred to the Circuit Medical Centre for further assessment and treatment before being flown by Kent Air Ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, which is the leading trauma centre in the region."
Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Craig was treated trackside by the medical staff before being transferred by air-ambulance to the Royal London Hospital. He has a serious head injury and the doctors have placed him in a pharmacological coma to stabilise his condition. We will not know any more for at least 24 or 48-hours – all our thoughts are with him and his family.

“I would like to thank the medical staff for their attention and also the well-wishers for their thoughts. We shall update the news on Craig’s condition as and when we can.”
