Rizla Suzuki’s Tom Sykes has put his British Superbike-spec GSX-R1000 on provisional second row this afternoon at Brands Hatch World Superbikes.
Sykes finished the hour-long session in ninth place, just half a second behind pole-sitter Ryuchi Kiyonari, who is obviously taking advantage of his track knowledge. The two-times British Superbike champion held the number one spot for most of the session and will be the man to beat tomorrow.
The hour saw plenty of crashes, with one red flag caused by Shinichi Nakatomi who lobbed it big style at Surtees, it came down to a scrap between Kiyo and Noriyuki Haga in the final ten minutes.
Haga replaced Kiyo at the top of the tree with eight minutes to go, but Kiyo came back at him with just four minutes left to post the polesetting time.
Surprise of the session was Vent Axia Honda’s Gregorio Lavilla who held the number two spot until the dying moments. He was eventually bumped down to sixth. Wilcard Chris Walker, Lavilla’s team-mate for this weekend, was 21st.
Wildcard Simon Andrews has withdrawn and will be replaced by Tristan Palmer. Click here for the story.
