After this afternoon's World Superbike Superpole Xerox Ducati manager Davide Tardozzi must be wetting himself. And the team's number two rider Michel Fabrizio must be shitting himself.
Team test rider Niccolo Canepa, who recently went quickest at the MotoGP tests round Indianapolis beating Rizla Suzuki's Ben Spies, managed to secure sixth place during his first ever crack at Superpole, beating such names as Haga (albeit injured), Neukirchner, Xaus, Kagayama and Checa.
If they are wondering where the next big thing is, it might have been hiding right under their noses in a pit garage in Mugello for a bit!
Canepa said: "As it's the first time that I've ever taken part in Superpole I have to say I'm really pleased with my performance. During my Superpole lap I made a small mistake and if it weren't for that I'd have been a couple of tenths faster I think but I can't complain with a place on the second row for tomorrow's race. We're still planning to make a few more little changes this evening to try during the morning's warm-up as we could still improve our race pace but for now, I'm more than happy."
