BRNO WSB: SPIES BAGS NINTH POLE POSITION

Superpole three
Ben Spies 1'58.858
Michel Fabrizio 1'58.960
Max Biaggi 1'59.055

Sterilgarda Yamaha's Ben Spies cruised to his ninth World Superbike pole position of the 2009 season at Brno but Xerox Ducati's Michel Fabrizio kept him honest, lapping only a tenth of a second slower.

Aprilia's Max Biaggi, who has topped the timesheets for most of the weekend, just couldn't match the American's pace and has to settle for third while Britain's Jonathan Rea rounds out the front row.

Despite a last-lap charge, Shane Byrne had to settle for the head of row two with the BMWs of Corser and Xaus just beating Tom Sykes down into eighth place.

Superpole two
Ben Spies 1'58.965
Max Biaggi 1'59.224
Troy Corser 1'59.475

Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus made history with both BMWs into the last  qualifying session for the first time this year, with Corser getting into Superpole three with his last lap.

Spies put in the only 1'58s circuit of the weekend so far and home-town hero Jakub Smrz crashed in the second session but got off the floor to drag himself from 16th to 12. Sykes finally showed some form, getting up fourth before being deposed by Byrne.

Jakub Smrz 1'59.792
Troy Corser 1'59.891

Both the Stiggy Hondas of Leon Haslam and John Hopkins were eliminated in the first round. Haslam was hanging on the edge of being dumped out for the whole session and it was Shinya Nakano's final circuit that pushed him down to 17th. Kawasaki's Broc Parkes crashed out of the session and Ten Kate Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari were also punted out.

Spies set the quickest lap of the weekend so far with Smrz just behind him. Corser suddenly pulled out a fast lap to go only a tenth slower than the American while Fabrizio and Tamada were all inside the 1'59s bracket.
