Factory Kawasaki's Tom Sykes has claimed his seventh World Superbike pole position of the season today at Brno in a session that was red-flagged after a crash and then run under the wet Superpole rules from the halfway point.
Davide Guigliano crashed out when he lost the front of his Althea Ducati in the second session which put oil down and the session had to be stopped for the subsequent clear up. Ayrton Badovini and David Salom also went down.
As the bikes came back out on track after a lengthy delay, rain began to fall so the session was run under wet rules and was shortened to one 20-minute period where Sykes and Carlos Checa were the only two men to swap meaningful times.
Sykes top the leader-board only for Checa to put his Althea Ducati on top but the Huddersfield man was having none of it and banged in a 1'58.010 to settle the argument. Eugene Laverty will start from third place with Guigliano using his spare bike to grab fourth place at session end.
BMW's Marco Melandri heads row two and has Jonathan Rea for company. The Irishman has slowly worked his way on to the pace this weekend after crashing in opening practice. He has Leon Haslam for company in seventh place. Michel Fabrizio completes the top eight.
Chaz Davies walked away from a crash at turn one and still managed to hold on to ninth place and has Jakub Smrz for company. Leon Camier and Max Biaggi are 13th and 14th after not making it into the second session with Loris Baz and John Hopkins finish the top 16.
