Camier MV Agusta deal is ‘long-term plan’

Britain’s Leon Camier has admitted signing a two-year deal with the MV Agusta team is a gamble but he says he is playing the long game and using next season to develop a new bike for 2016.

The former BSB champion has a contract with the factory and is confident that MV is putting all the right pieces of the jigsaw into place, including running a test team alongside his own work next year.”

“The idea is they have a plan to develop over the next two or three years. I know next year is going to be really difficult, I know there is a lot of work to do with it to make it near competitive but this is a development year and there is a new bike in 2016,” said Camier, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“If I can be involved in the development of this bike, then that all gets translated to the new one. It is something we can build on. MV are putting in a massive effort, putting together a test team and the idea is to have something competitive for 2016.

“Even though it is the last year of this bike, they are still putting in the effort to develop it and that says to me they are serious about making a strong commitment for the next years. It is a gamble but they are putting in the effort to make it happen.

“It is a full factory effort, I know I can develop a bike, I understand everything with the bike that we will need to make it happen so I want to be involved. MV are using all the best components - what we need to get it done will be there, the best of the best.”
