Reigning World Supersport Champion Chaz Davies was last night crowned Welsh Sports Personality of the Year, fending off stiff competition from various athletes and a boxer called Nathan Cleverly to take the gong.
Davies, who won the BBC Wales Young Sportsman of the Year in 2005, was named as the 58th winner at an awards ceremony at Swansea's Liberty Stadium, which celebrated the past year in Welsh sport. He is now officially famous and was mentioned on Radio 2's Chris Evans show this morning, we are told...
"I can't believe it. I am shocked. I can't get my head around it. I've had a bit of an up-and-down career and (the world title) is something I have been working towards. This year everything came together for me in a fantastic way and this, to top the end of the season, is unbelievable. Thanks to BBC Wales and everyone who voted for me, it's overhwelming," said Davies, via Skype from California.
