DMC Yamaha’s Kev Coghlan has put his hands up to a ‘stupid mistake’ that cost him vital points in yesterday’s World Supersport race at Imola.
The young Scotsman slid off when he lost the front at Rivazza as he was trying to put a move on Pata Honda’s Michael Van Der Mark and as a result falls to fourth in the title chase. However, title favourite Kenan Sofuoglu also retired from the race with an engine problem.
"It was totally my fault, I just made a bit of a bad start, trying to make up too much time at once. I think me, Marino and Van Der Mark all ran into the Rivazza a little bit hot. I saw the opportunity to get under Van der Mark when he ran a bit wide, but I forced it too much. I had just a bit too much speed and down I went. A stupid mistake and I should have known better,” said Coghlan.
“I just want to apologize to all the team who worked so hard all weekend! They deserved the podium that we could have easily achieved today. I'm a bit gutted really, we had the tyre and the pace I think to run with Kenan and Zanetti so it could have been a good one. Roll on Donington.”
