Malaysian rider, Hafizh Syahrin, could return to World Superbikes as a full-time rider in 2025.
Hafizh Syahrin returned to the World Superbike Championship last time out at Portimao as a wildcard. The Malaysian rider returned with his JDT Racing Team, the team he rides for in the Asian Road Racing Championship.
After losing his full-time WorldSBK ride at the end of 2023, Syahrin has been trying to get back into World Championship racing. Syahrin was asked whether his wildcard was a test for a full-time return to WorldSBK with the JDT Racing Team.
"Yes, we want to try that," Syahrin confirmed in an interview with SPEEDWEEK.com. "However, time is short and the team has only been around since December, so only a little over half a year. I have to thank my boss that it worked out with Portimão."
"Things are going pretty well in the ARRC, although the field in the World Championship is stronger and I noticed that the level has increased overall compared to 2023," said the former MotoGP rider.
"Even with a good bike, it's not easy and it's difficult without previous test rides. But the guest start was a good experience and it was nice to see that we were able to improve with each session."
In the interview, Syahrin was also asked if Petronas could be involved in his World Championship return. The Malaysian rider has often been supported by Petronas during his career, so they could come to his aid once again.
"We're talking about it," Syahrin said. "I don't know what the future will bring. I'm concentrating on my job, management is doing its. My hope is that we will enter with a good package. We'll see."
