Danilo Petrucci has been declared unfit for the World Superbike finale

Gold & Goose

Danilo Petrucci will have to watch the final round of the 2025 World Superbike Championship from the sidelines.

After missing the Estoril World Superbike Round due to a hand injury, Danilo Petrucci has also been declared unfit for the Spanish World Superbike Round.

The Italian suffered a freak hand injury whilst training in the gym ahead of the Estoril World Superbike Round, and was declared unfit after participating in Free Practice One at the Portuguese circuit.

Petrucci underwent surgery on his right hand on Monday, in the hope of being declared fit at Jerez for the final round of the 2025 season. However, he did not pass his medical checks on Thursday at the Spanish circuit.

This means that Petrucci will not get to end his time with the Barni Spark Racing Team on circuit, and he will lose out on third in the 2025 World Superbike Championship.

Petrucci had been fighting with Alvaro Bautista and Andrea Locatelli for third in the World Superbike Championship, but slipped back to third after missing all three races at Estoril.

It is not possible for the Italian to fall any further back in the final round, meaning he will match his Championship finish from the 2024 season.

However, Petrucci will not get to end his three-year stint with the Barni Spark Racing Team on a positive note. The Italian will leave the Italian team at the end of the season for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team, but he ends his time on a Ducati on the sidelines.
