Donington Park WorldSBK: Brad Ray is hoping he 'can get into the top ten' at his home round

Gold and Goose

Brad Ray is in his first season in the WorldSBK class and has been a regular point scorer so far this season. Now he is back at familiar territory he wants to go one step further and crack the top ten.

Brad Ray is currently 20th in then WorldSBK standings after he has completed nine races so far this season. In these nine races that he has competed in this season he has scored five points. Throughout this season Ray has and will only be competing at the European rounds so he missed the first six races of the year.

But now that we are at his home event at Donington Park Ray is looking forward to riding his WorldSBK machine at a track that he is familiar with from his time in British Superbikes.

"I am super excited. I am looking forward to coming to Donington," Ray told WorldSBK.com before the weekend began. "We have been working well with the Motox team and we have been making good progress, so I am hoping that this weekend we can make a good step forward.

"I enjoy Donington. I have had some good success here in the past in BSB so it will be nice to come to a track that I have had a lot of time on. Hopefully we can make some inroads with the bike and get some solid results."

Ahead of this weekends action Ray was also asked whether this weekend at Donington Park will be a key round for himself to understand the bike and the package more for the remainder of the season.

"I think it has been difficult because a lot of the tracks I have gone to this year I have not been to for many, many years, and have never been to on a Superbike." replied Ray. "I have gone about weekends trying to learn the track whilst trying to race them as well.

"Coming to Donington I know the track very well I have had a lot of time and a lot of experience on this track so we can go out in the first practice and get down to a good pace and work on the race situation.

"I think we can understand a lot more with the package when I spin some laps around Donington and hopefully this is the turn around round for me for the rest of the year.

"It has been difficult, with the results maybe not being as good as they look on paper. But the most important thing for me is that every round we go to at the minute we are closing the gap to the front guys, we are making some good progress.

"I want to carry that on into this weekend and hopefully we can get ourselves into the top ten and be around that mark. With the boys and the team that I have got behind me I think we can leave here with three solid races."

With the WorldSBK silly season now in full swing with riders signing contracts for 2024 and beyond the question was put to Ray whether he has any idea where he will be riding come the start of next season.

"Not at the moment. I am just going about my business at the minute I still have a lot to learn and a lot to prove to Motox and Yamaha. I just want to go about my business this weekend and do the best job I can at my home round for my fans, my family and my friends that are coming up. Hopefully, we can use this weekend as a stepping stone for the rest of the season as well."
