Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlioglu took charge of the WorldSBK points table at Donington Park this afternoon with a victory in race two while reigning champion Jonathan Rea crashed out at half distance.

Rea and Raglatlioglu had opened gap on the pack in the second feature race and one lap after the Kawasaki man pounced on an error from the Turk at Coppice, he lost the front at the same place.

Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha) came through from outside the podium places to score second place, 2.243 seconds back from Razgatlioglu.

Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) won a tense final battle for the final podium place, from the upwardly mobile Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati). A slide and running wide into the Melbourne loop on the final lap prevented his last chance of a passing manoeuvre after 23 laps and he was fourth.

Early in the race Razgatlioglu and Rea made a short but clean break from the other leading contenders, as the two men at the head of the championship points table occasionally fought each other.

Rea retook the lead with 14 laps to go, at Coppice, as Razgatlioglu ran wide on the entry.

On the same corner of Coppice Rea was to fall on lap 11, restarting his bike but finishing outside the points.

Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) was fifth, 1.1 seconds ahead of Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team). Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven Ducati) placed seventh, chasing down Lowes for a time.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), Leon Haslam (HRC Honda) and Alvaro Bautista (HRC Honda) completed the Race Two top ten.

In the championship Razgatlioglu is the new series leader, by two points, with 183. Rea is now on 181, Redding 117 and Lowes 114.
