Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss has taken his first ever win at Donington Park this afternoon in a race that was re-started after Noriyuki Haga spilled oil around most of the track.
Haga's Santander Yamaha exploded mid-way through the race and the Japanese didn't immediately pull in or move off the racing line which caused his yteam-mate Troy Corser, among others, to crash at Coppice and there was a heated conversation between team managers in pitlane.
Rizla Suzuki's Tom Sykes was second with Sterilgarda's Max Biaggi third on aggregate time. Sykes went into the re-start with a four-second lead after he caught and passed Bayliss with 17 laps to go.
The Huddersfield youngster then pulled way from the world champion-elect before the red flags came out.
In the second part, Sykes led off the line with HM Plant Honda's Leon Haslam, Bayliss and Roberto Rolfo in close attendance. Haslam went past the Ducati inside two laps and then seemed to have some sort of problem.
Bayliss re-passed him and then went past Sykes to lead on the road after Sykes slowed because he thought it was raining. The Aussie then reeled in Sykes' lead on time and went past him with five laps to go.
Haslam, who was on for a WSB podium finish, was then forced to dump his bike when Rolfo pulled an outlandish overtake on the brakes into Foggy's, lost the front and Haslam had no-where to go. He re-joined and ended in eighth.
Hydrex Honda's James Ellison finished 11th while Cal Crutchlow and Chris Walker both retired.
