DONINGTON WSB: BROOKES TAKES SUPERSPORT WIN; REA THIRD

Hanspree Stiggy Honda's John Brookes nabbed the Donington Park World Supersport win this afternoon after hunting down Ten Kate Honda's Andrew Pitt and passing him with four laps to go.
Brookes, who qualified on the front row, rode a calm and collected race, picking off Britian's Jonathan Rea before going after his team-mate Pitt. It was Brookes' first win of the year.
Pitt started the race from 15th on the grid but was up with the front runners after only a handful laps. He battled with Rea and the pair looked like they could pull away from Brookes and Suzuki's Barry Veneman. Rea's rear tyre went off with seven laps left and he could do nothing but watch Brookes and Pitt disappear.
"Today was great. I had a great bike to race with and rode my best to finish on the top. I got a good start and felt really comfortable. The guys in front were not as fast as I was expecting, so I was a bit surprised,"said Brookes.
"I put my head down and felt really secure that I could fight with the leaders. I had a few "moments" but I got comfortable again, focused on riding perfect laps and before I knew it, I was right behind the leader Pitt. I stayed just behind and two laps before the finish I overtook him and brought home the victory.  I would also like to dedicate this win to the memory of Craig Jones."
Andrew Pitt said: "I thought I’d done enough but Josh (Brookes) had a little bit more at the end, I guess. I’m happy enough after the problems we had in qualifying yesterday, and starting from the fourth row was always going to be hard work. But it was made easier by the team, who put a great bike underneath me, so big thanks to them."

Jonathan Rea said: "I’ll take third today, because I didn’t really have enough to match the two guys in front of me. But the team’s been fantastic after all the wet weather this weekend and the bike was brilliant. I was trying to win the race as much for my good friend, Craig Jones, as for myself. Maybe that was the problem today."
Ireland's Eugene Laverty got a creditable 12th place on the Yamaha World Supersport bike. The 22-year-old is standing in for the injured Fabien Foret and hasn't had any dry time on the bike at all. A test session at Croft was wet and of free practice and qualifying has been held in the wet here to.
Chris Martin, who is riding for the GiL Kawasaki squad with 15th, with Graeme Gowland 20th. Buff Triumph's Rob Frost, who was quickest in morning warm-up, lobbed in on the first lap.
