Yamaha's Troy Corser blew a potential pole position lap on the last corner of his final lap at Donington Park this afternoon - his second crash of the soaking wet session.
The Aussie was three tenths of a second faster than Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss through the second split time and looked to be headed for another Superpole but he got on the gas too hard at Goddards and the rear let go. He crashed heavily through Craner Curves earlier in the hour.
Bayliss will head the grid for tomorrow's races followed by Ten Kate Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari and team-mate Carlos Checa.
Hydrex Honda's James Ellison was best of the Brits in fifth place. Rizla Suzuki's Tom Sykes headed the timesheets early on the session with a 1'42.624 which deposed Kiyonari. Sykes crashed at Coppice with five minutes remaining but still finished seventh.
Bayliss and Kiyonari then battled it out for the rest of the session with the Australian coming out on top.
HM Plant Honda's Cal Crutchlow, who crashed with half the session gone, ended in ninth with team-mate Leon Haslam in 12th.
