DONINGTON WSB: CRUTCHLOW SNATCHES SEVENTH POLE

Yamaha World Supersport Team’s Cal Crutchlow yet another pole position on home soil at Donington this weekend for the British Round of the World Supersport championship whilst suffering from a broken ankle and crashing in the first half of the session.
Crutchlow was running very low down the order and had gained a couple of places to be in 16th when he crashed at McLeans.  Once he rejoined the session he seemed back on form and with 16 minutes to go he leaped to second, from that point on he was a main challenger for the pole.
It was Joan Lascorz of Kawasaki Motocard.com who held pole for the majority of the session followed by Eugene Laverty of Parkalgar Honda who held second whilst Kawasaki Motocard.com’s Katsuaki Fujiwara held third.
It was Honda Althea Racing’s Mark Aitchison who was first to stir up the top three with him taking second pushing Laverty down a place with 27 minutes to go, but had to settle for seventh come the chequered flag.
Kenan Sofuoglu of HANNspree ten Kate Honda provided the first crash of the session in the first couple of laps.  Once back on track on Sofuoglu immediately jumped up the timing sheet to take fourth..
It was the last few laps of the session things really started to heat up with Laverty being the first to take pole away from Lascorz, then Crutchlow started to show he was not having that by getting ahead.
Laverty fought back to return to the top with one minute to go and it all looked to be over with Crutchlow messing up his fast lap, but after just making across the line before the chequered flag came out he had one more chance.
Immediately it was clear he wasn’t hanging around improving on his time in both the first two sectors and even though he looked to lose a lot of time at the Melbourne loop he continued on to take his seventh pole of the season.
Wildcard riders James Westmorland of JW Racing finished 13th, Hudson Kennaugh of Linxcel-Seton Tuning finished 20th and Michael Laverty of Echo CRS Grand Prix slightly behind in 21st.
