HM Plant Honda's Cal Crutchlow had to watch a wet weather masterclass from race two winner Ryuichi Kiyonari at Donington Park this afternoon as the Japanese rider controlled the race from the front.
Kiyo managed to keep Crutchlow at bay for the final ten laps, only allowing the Honda man to within half a second once before basically showing off on the last lap and disappearing.
It was a mature ride from Crutchlow who had the Ten Kate Honda in his sights for much of the second half of the race but just didn't have the the pace to jump the gap.
Race one victor Troy Bayliss was lying in a safe second place until he crashed out at Schwantz Curve with 13 laps to go, asking too much from the rear in soaking conditions.
Crutchlow's team-mate Leon Haslam, who was nerfed off in race one, was running in fourth behind Troy Corser but fell at the Old Hairpin in a similar crash to Bayliss.
Hydrex Honda's James Ellison was just off the podium in fourth place after he went into the gravel at the halfway mark. Ellison showed his pace, however, setting a fastest lap on his way back up the order.
Rizla Suzuki's Tom Sykes couldn't match his race one second place, eventually finishing in tenth, nearly a minute behind Kiyonari.
Noriyuki Haga was black-flagged after failing to come in for a ride-through penalty. Race direction had informed Haga he had to come in for the penalty because he had ignored a black and orange flag in race one, which was deemed as dangerous behavior. His bike had dumped oil all over the track.
