British 250GP star Eugene Laverty has altered the way his Yamaha World Supersport bike engine behaves so it feels more like the Aprilia two-stroke he is used to riding.
The 22-year-old Ulsterman, who ended today's Donington Park qualifying session in 21st after a crash at Coppice early on, has been working with the mechanics to change the amount of engine braking the bike has.
"We've put some new things into the map so the bike now won't back-in at all and pushes on when I change down. It's more like a two-stroke now," said Laverty.
"A lot of riders don't like that but it suits me because I can get the bike stopped on the brakes without having to worry about what the engine is doing."
Despite a poor grid position for tomorrow's race, Laverty is upbeat even though he took a tumble.
"It started raining as I went into Coppice, tried to stand the bike up and get on the gas but round in went.
"We only had one set of hard wets that would work on a drying track and they were on the bike that I crashed. I tried to go out on some soft wets but they just didn't work.
"It's not too bad, I just want some dry time in the morning just to see what the bike will do."
