Reigning World Superbike Champion ended today’s free practice sessions at Donington Park less than a half a tenth slower than fastest man Tom Sykes - who has won the last six races here - and says it is the best he has ever felt at the Leicestershire track.
Rea set a 1’27.966 in this afternoon’s second session after having to alter his line through the Fogy Esses and also had problems with false neutrals but says he is happy as he still has some setup changes to make.
“The chicane I have been taking a little too much kerb and the deeper you go in there, the more aggressive it is, so I have stopped that. We had a little bit of a problem with finding false neutrals, especially in the last corner, and I was a bit concerned about throwing another gear at it but the rest of the time it’s been no dramas, I am pretty happy,” Rea told bikesportnews.com at the track.
“We are in a good way I think. To be this close to the fastest time of the weekend already and we still need to make some improvements. This is the best I have ever felt at Donington.”
