Donington WSBK: ‘Fantastic’ weekend for Lowes

Yakhich Yamaha's Sam Lowes took World Supersport pole position, the lap record and victory this weekend at Donington Park, simply proclaiming that the weekend has been 'fantastic'.

The Derbyshire lad also admitted to having one eye on the championship in future rounds, after opening out a 30-point advantage with his victory this afternoon.

"It was fantastic, to get pole position, lap record and the win, you've got to be happy. I lead from the front so it was a bit of a lonely race but I felt really good. The pace wasn't fantastic so I just tried to stay consistent, count down the laps and race my pit board," said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com after the race.

"I was capable of giving a little bit more, running a couple of tenths quicker but you know, if it was a battle it probably could of been different. If I'd have pushed on further, the problem is I could have crashed and lost valuable points so I just had to bring it home.

"It was a different race, winning in a different way but great in the end. My aim this year is to win the championship so I've got to think about it a little bit now. I know I can't win every race but I've got to start the weekend trying to win. If one weekend fifth is all I can do, I'll just have to take that but hopefully we'll be there come the end of the year."
