Leon Haslam was controversially robbed of his debut World Superbike win for the BMW team in race two at Donington Park this afternoon when Jonathan Rea made a pass into the final corner on the last lap which skittled the Derbyshire man and his team-mate.
Haslam looked set for a win as he exited the Melbourne Loop on the final lap of 23. Marco Melandri had tried a pass going into the stop/go corner but ran wide, giving Haslam room to get good drive up the hill in to Goddards.
The Italian then tried again into the last corner but was again wide while Rea thought Haslam had left him enough room, the pair collided with Haslam's bike hitting the deck and sliding into Melandri, who also went down.
Haslam tried to push his bike to the line to collect points and managed to secure one for 15th place. The collision promoted Max Biaggi into second and Tom Sykes on to the podium for the second time today while Rea took the win. Sykes is now in a secure second place in the championship just behind the Italian former title holder.
Fixi Suzuki's Leon Camier had made steady progress through the field and ended up taking fourth place ahead of Sylvain Guintoli and Ayrton Badovini. Chaz Davies also finished well in seventh, Loris Baz eighth, Peter Hickman ninth and Hiro Aoyama in tenth. Reigning champion Carlos Checa crashed in the first corner after he touched the real wheel of Eugene Laverty, who himself had a big off at the top of Craner Curves but was unhurt.
