Yahknich Yamaha's Sam Lowes stormed to his third consecutive World Supersport victory by over ten seconds this afternoon at Donington Park, extending his championship lead to thirty points with the win.
Intermoto Kawasaki's Florian Marino took the holeshot from the second row but Lowes moved past the Frenchman on the brakes into the Foggy Esses and didn't look back from that point on. The Brit set a new lap record in the process of opening out an impressive 11.1 second advantage and the 25 points.
ParkinGo MV's Christian Iddon was battling for the final podium spot in fourth throughout the early stages of the race before Pata Honda's Lorenzo Zanetti made contact with the Stockport rider at the Melbourne Loop, causing him to crash out and sending Turk Kenan Sofuoglu wide and back to sixth. However, the MAHI Kawasaki rider recovered well, battling back through the field into a comfortable second place in the race and into second in the championship
Marino and Zanetti were enthralled in a battle for third, before Iddon's MV team-mate, Roby Rolfo, found some pace. The diminutive Italian passed Jack Kennedy before moving ahead of both Marino and Zanetti on the same lap to take MV's first podium finish of the year.
Zanetti had to settle for fourth ahead of Luca Scassa, who knocked off team-mate Florain Marino on the penultimate lap, and Rivamoto's Jack Kennedy. The Dubliner was challenging for the last podium spot during the early parts of the race but faded back, before passing South African Sheridan Morais on the last lap to take sixth.
Reigning British Supersport champion, Glen Richards, took tenth in his wildcard ride, with team-mate Billy McConnell finishing outside of the points. Scot Kev Coghlan was looking to take a comfortable top ten finish before a gearbox issue forced him to retire with just nine laps remaining.
