Ducati’s Davide Giugliano succumbed to the wet conditions after he crashed at Melbourne during Superpole at a damp Donington Park – but the Italian had already done enough to place his bike on pole after a 1’44.908.
The rider clinched his first pole position of the season and was able to get the better of local rider Pata Honda’s Leon Haslam and fellow countryman Aprilia’s Marco Melandri. Even though Giugliano will start from the number one spot on the grid he still found the session ‘difficult’.
“It was a very difficult session because of the wet conditions. But it is great to be on pole, especially at the track because it is difficult. But even though I crashed I am happy,” said Giugliano.
