Donington WSBK: Sofuoglu tops Supersport practice; Coghlan third

Mahi Racing’s Kenan Sofuoglu was the quickest rider in the second World Supersport free practice session at Donington Park, and edged both Pata Honda’s Michael Van Der Mark and DMC Panavto-Yamaha’s Kev Coghlan to take the top spot on the timesheets with a 1’31.196 lap.

In the opening minutes it was Sofuoglu who bettered the fastest lap set by Van Der Mark in the opening session. But the former triple champion’s reign at the top of the timing-screens was not to last as Coghlan put in a solid 1’31.340 to go quickest with just under 30 minutes remaining.

But Van Der Mark wanted to start where he left off – at the top, and ten minutes later he did just that, lapping a 1’31.313 to go fastest. But Sofuoglu was never far behind and with one minute remaining to the final Supersport outing of the day clocked the fastest time of the afternoon – a 1’31.196, going three tenths quicker than Van Der Mark and Coghlan.

CIA Insurance Honda’s Jack Kennedy made it safely into the top ten fastest times, and ended the day in seventh with a 1’31.870, just behind former MCE British Superbike contender PJ Jacobsen. Yakhnich’s Jules Cluzel completed the top ten.

Motorpoint British Supersport rider Sam Hornsey is wild-carding at this round and finished the session in 17th. Com Plus Racing’s Fraser Rogers ended the outing in 23rd.
