Donington WSBK: Sykes hopes for a repeat performance

Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes took a comfortable win in the first World Superbike race of the day at Donington Park, and wants to emulate his winning form in race two, later on this afternoon.

The Huddersfield rider out paced every single other racer out on the track, and in the end had a two second lead, over second place GoldBet BMW’s Marco Melandri. He was also able to fend off advances from Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea in the early stages on race one, and then charges from Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli.

The Kawasaki man has dominated all weekend, and is keen to put on an extra special performance in front of his home crowd when he takes to the track again for the final World Superbike race of the day.

“I wanted to put on a good show especially in my home race and I have been very motivated in recent times. We started off the weekend very strongly and the ZX10R is working well and I can’t give enough credit to the fantastic team I have got,” said Sykes.

“I hope to repeat the performance in race two, but it is going to be very difficult as everyone is always improving, but overall this is a great start to the weekend.”
