Donington WSBK: Tyre decisions hamper Davies in Superpole

GoldBet BMW’s Chaz Davies regrets using his qualifying tyre in Superpole one, making it difficult for the Welshman to compete for a front row start for the World Superbike race on Sunday.

Davies did feel he had chance to improve his bike, but after making a poor decision regarding his tyres it put a dampener on the rest of the Superpole session, resulting in the racer starting from the third row of the grid.

“It could have been better, it was not terrible but we improved the bike. Unfortunately I used my qualifying tyre in the first session when we did not need to, which was kind of a bummer because in the last Superpole I had to go out on a used qualifier which was not ideal. But I think we did a decent job,” said Davies, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

The Powys based rider is not ruling out the possibility of making it on to the podium, even after starting from seventh place on the Donington Park grid.

“A podium is possible, but I think there are a couple of guys who have got good pace to win the race. I think there will be a fight for a podium and I think people are still playing catch up with their set up after the rain yesterday. But I think we can improve and hopefully the bike gets a bit better too.”
