Ducati confirm that 'Nicolo Bulega has every opportunity to test a MotoGP bike'

Gold & Goose

Nicolo Bulega will be given a MotoGP test if he re-signs with Ducati for the 2026 World Superbike Championship.

In recent months, Nicolo Bulega and Ducati have been engaged in contract negotiations for the 2026 World Superbike Championship.

The Italian rider has been searching for more money since his breakout rookie season in 2024. However, Ducati have not been able to reach Bulega's demands, but the Italian manufacturer is still hoping to reach a deal.

"We are in a delicate moment and in the middle of negotiations," Ducati Sporting Director Mauro Grassilli said to SPEEDWEEK.com.

"Ducati likes Nicolo very much, he's part of our family, and we want the best for him. The best for now and also for the future."

There have been rumours that Bulega would return to the MotoGP paddock with Ducati when the 850cc bikes and Pirelli tyres are introduced. However, Grassilli is hesitant about the decision due to the difference between a Grand Prix machine and a Superbike.

"The bike and the tyres for MotoGP will be completely different," Grassilli explained.

"Pirelli will build completely different tyres for MotoGP than those currently used in the Superbike World Championship. Everything will be different. But we also know that Nicolo is a Supersport champion."

Grassilli did admit that he would be willing to let Bulega test a MotoGP bike in the near future, due to his success in World Superbikes.

"At the moment, Nicolo is better than Toprak," Grassilli stated.

"Perhaps also because the Ducati is better than the BMW, but Bulega is doing an outstanding job. He feels strong and is in good shape.

"In the past, we've brought riders from the Superbike World Championship to the MotoGP World Championship; perhaps we should return to that approach.

"We can let young riders grow on the Superbike and then bring them to MotoGP; that should be the idea. Nicolo has every opportunity to test a MotoGP bike in the near future."
