Following his double World Superbike win at Istanbul Park on Sunday, Eugene Laverty had it confirmed to him by Aprilia bosses there would be no place for him on the factory WSBK team next season.
The Irishman looks likely to be replaced by Marco Melandri who will join Sylvain Guintoli who reportedly has a performance clause in his contract states if he finishes in the top three, he gets a extension to his deal.
Laverty in is in talks with two unnamed teams for next season in WSBK which will lead to MotoGP in 2015 but is currently favourite a place in the Aspar Aprilia MotoGP team in 2014.
"I kind of knew that there wasn't a place for me at Aprilia as it makes sense for them to have an Italian rider in the team but we have had strong talks with Aspar that is positive," said Laverty speaking to bikesportnews.com this afternoon.
"They had an option on me which ran out on Sunday but they both sides are actively pursuing the deal so I am hoping it can be sorted out sooner rather than later."
If the deal goes ahead, it is believed Laverty will partner Nicky Hayden in the team. Hayden failed to deny he had done a deal with the squad when asked at Misano.
