My first front row start in World Supersport and who’s gonna be sat next to me on the grid? Bloody Cal Crutchlow, it feels like 2006 all over again! It’s hard to believe that we went in two completely different directions in ’07 and ’08 and now we’re back battling together again side by side.
I tried doing a long stint this morning but we encountered some tyre trouble so I entered the pits. It worked out fine as I changed tyre and found my race tyre. Normally you have to decide on the rear but instead it’s the front at this circuit.
During both practices we moved the weight more to the front of the bike and after finishing outside the top 10 this morning I arrived in 2nd position this afternoon. How the hell did that happen!? Just kidding, we know exactly what we’re doing and although it may have surprised most to see us jump so far up the grid we’ve just been chipping away all weekend without making very much noise at all.
My race pace is really good so I’m looking forward to a tough battle tomorrow with Cal. It’ll be great if we both manage to mount the podium.
Last night was, well, a nightmare so to speak. Towards the end of the movie a function kicked off beneath so loud that Pip and I struggled to hear the movie.
After making a few complaints we tried to sleep but it was midnight before I caught some zzzzz’s. And whata ya know, the same has kicked off tonight! We adjusted to prima dona mode, kicked up a stink and they’ve moved us to a deluxe apartment on the 6th floor.
The saying goes, “If you want honey, don’t kick over the beehive.” The 2007 season taught me NOT to live by that motto, so I’ve started kicking over a few more beehives since then. And I haven’t been stung yet.
Enjoy the race guys!
