I (barely) opened my eyes at 07.15 this morning when my alarm went off. First practice was at 09.35 so after some breakfast Pippa and I headed to the circuit with my teammate Miguel.
Yesterday Pippa bought the mechanics some doughnuts from Krispy Kreme so the boys sure were happy to see them this morning. At one stage I was worried that I’d be taking the tyre warmers off myself but the mechanics returned to professional form before long!
First practice was pretty steady away. The track was filthy so we opted not to use any of our good rear tyres which was a good call. I finished down in 14th but got a good understanding of what I needed from the chassis. Between sessions Brains and I went over the data and decided on some changes to the front fork and the overall gearing.
In the afternoon we worked our way through a host of things including two different front tyres. This in particular we’re still not sure about but we’ll confirm after tomorrow morning’s practice. The chassis is working well after very few alterations which proves that this Honda really doesn’t need much tinkering when you’ve found a base setting. Makes Brains’ and my job a lot easier!
Tomorrow morning I’d like to try a race run, the setting isn’t so far away so it would be nice to get a feeling for the tyres when they’re worse for wear. Also that’ll make team manager Simon Buckmaster happy as I won’t use so many tyres so the mood of the team shall be lifted further!
I’ve returned to the room from dinner and I’m just about to sit back and watch a movie before bed.
Good night all.
