BMW's Leon Haslam had to ride through this afternoon's World Superbike Superpole at the Nurburgring using race tyres as once again he couldn't make the S1000RR work on the sticky qualifying rubber.
Haslam starts from seventh on the grid with a fastest lap of 1'55.887 but says it bodes well for the two races as he can do those lap times all day and thinks a podium is within reach. Systems that control the bike's engine braking are thought to be responsible for making it hard to work with Pirelli qualifiers.
“I am happy with the way everything has gone today. I managed to post my fastest lap time on race tyres, which is promising for the two races tomorrow. Sadly we don’t seem to be able to extract the full potential from the qualifying tyres like the other guys, but we made it through to SP3 which was the main objective," said Haslam.
"For the races tomorrow I will be hoping for a good start and to push for the podium. I think Carlos Checa has good pace and will be hard to beat, but we can definitely challenge the others so I am looking forward to tomorrow.”
