Former World Superbike Champion Sylvain Guintoli will concentrate on reducing tyre wear so he can be competitive at the end of both Assen WSBK races this weekend.
Pata Yamaha have shown the new R1 has a turn of raw speed after taking front-row grid slots lasr time out at Aragon but loss of grip has been a major factor with the new YZF-R1 this season.
Conversely, it was tyre conservation with the bike that saw Josh Brookes take the R1 to the 2015 British Superbike title and that was with very little in the way of electronic help.
“In Aragon we made a step forward with the YZF-R1’s raw speed. This showed in Superpole by securing second place with a lap that was faster than the existing lap record and in race one I was able to stay with the leader for a few laps so the raw lap times are good,” said the Frenchman.
“Consistency and tyre wear management will be our priority in Assen, a track I very much enjoy and where I have been successful in the past, so I’m looking forward to the weekend.”
