Britain's Leon Haslam returned to the World Superbike podium in race two at Jerez, bagging third behind team-mate Jordi Torres but with Aprilia set to withdraw its factory operation from WSBK next season, the Derby rider is searching for a ride for 2016.
Haslam put together two strong rides in Spain and only just missed out on second in the afternoon outing. He tried a pass on Torres into the last corner of the last lap but ran wide.
“We made a step in the right direction for race two and that is the first time we have done a load of laps in the hot conditions because we lost a lot of time yesterday,” said Haslam, speaking at Jerez.
“It was a step into the unknown. I kept losing the front but it was good to be in a battle with Jordi for that second place. I had to have a go on the last lap – it was a bit of a lunge from a long way back but I am really happy.
“We need to win races in order to try and get second place. I think I am 40 points behind now but there were no orders for Jordi to help me. I am well happy with the podium.”
