Stiggy Honda's Leon Haslam spent his time at the Portimao tests this week familiarsing himself with different suspension and tyres, and finally getting his hands on a full electronics package.
The 25-year-old, who swtiches from British Superbikes to WSB in 2009, shared a Vent-Axia Honda with team-mate Robbie Rolfo for the test and said he was happy with the lap-times even though it really was just a shakedown.
"We were using one of Paul Bird's bikes from this year as it has the same suspension and electronics as out bikes will have for 2009," said Haslam.
"We only did about 30 laps each but it was great to get to use the ful Marelli electronics package. It's got so much on it that I haven't used so far, including anti-wheelie, and there are five engine maps all on a switch on the handlebars.
"Robbie and me shared the bike and I managed to very close to my best lap from the HM Plant Honda, and he as about eight-tenths faster than he had been the previous weekend, so we're both pretty made up.
"Our new bikes are being built now and they will be ready for the next test, so I am looking forward to seeing what we can really do with them."
