Former World Superbike Champion Neil Hodgson has backed three-times AMA Superbike winner Ben Spies as a serious WSB championship contender, saying he is impressed with the American's speed.
Hodgson, who now faces an uncertain future after Honda America pulled out of the AMA Superbike series yesterday evening, reckons Spies has the speed and talent to claim the title at his first attempt.
Speaking to www.bikesportnews.com, Hodgson said: "I was really glad to see Spies doing so well at the World Superbike tests and being right up there. I think he can win the series next year.
"It goes to show that the American championship can bring out some great talent and having ridden against him, I know exactly how fast he is. Spies his a great rider and it's great to see him going so well."
