BMW's Leon Haslam is confident he will be able to walk around unassisted by time he lands at the Imola World Superbike round in Italy later on this month and the leg he broke in a Phillip Island testing crash will not be a problem when it comes to race day.
Haslam managed a fifth place in race two just says after he had the right tibia operated and reckons that had it not been for a small gearbox problem in the second outing, he could well have finished on the podium.
"I'm having loads of physio and wearing an aircast so the recovery is going well. I am pretty confident I should be walking by the time we get to Imola so being on the bike shouldn't prove a problem at all," said Haslam, speaking to bikesportnews.com this lunchtime.
"In Australia, I was limited by doctors to the amount of practice laps I was able to do and in race one, the engine push problem we had suffered from came back but an engine change sorted that out. I could have got a podium if the gearbox hadn't developed a problem. We have learned a lot over the past year and we will be in good shape come Italy."
