Christian Iddon has been busy testing an Evo-spec Kawasaki at the World Superbike Jerez test this week, and the Stockport rider is pleased with his race pace, especially as he has not been on a 1000cc machine since 2010.
The former ParkinGO MV World Supersport front-runner does not have a ride sorted for next year, but was fortunate that he had to chance to ride around the circuit for the Pedercini Kawasaki team. He hopes to have a ride for next year in WSS, WSBK or even Moto2, but this week he was just getting to grips with a litre bike after being on a 600cc bike for the past few years.
Iddon really enjoyed the experience but found the difference between riding a Supersport compared to an Evo-spec Superbike to be huge and had to adapt his riding style. But he ended the sessions by putting in some solid times around the Spanish track.
But there is no rest for the Brit as he is off to Rome tomorrow to take part in the Supermoto Simoncelli charity race, with the likes of Valentino Rossi and Max Biaggi, but Iddon hopes that his performance this week will make some team's sit up and take notice.
"It was a really good experience riding the Evo-spec Kawasaki, but I have not ridden a 1000 since 2010 so that was a bit strange for me, as the bike was so immense and the difference in the engine side is huge. It was crazy but fun," said Iddon, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
"I first went on the bike on Monday and spent the day getting a feel for it, and then on Tuesday I really felt comfortable and was able to put in some solid lap times, but I still feel that I have more in me and I can be even quicker, and I was pleased with how quickly I adapted to the bike too.
"I honestly don't know what is going to happen in 2014 with my future, I was at Jerez purely to test and that was arranged by my manager and the Pedercini Team. I would like to have another chance to try and win the WSS title, but my ParkinGO team will not be running next year. Or if I can't be in Supersport I would like to be in World Superbike on an Evo bike, or at a push Moto2."
