Imola WSBK: Panigale ‘is a title fighter at every track’ - Davies

Aruba Ducati’s Chaz Davies believes he now has a bike that is capable to challenging for wins and the World Superbike title at every track now the top speed defict to Kawasaki has been eliminated.

Davies, who took the first race win today at Imola with relative ease, thinks that with the small top speed boost the bike has recieved, he can now take it to Jonathan Rea at every track this season.

“I have a good feeling, I’ve got the engine parts now which just helps. I can ride the bike really hard but it’s in a window where it is forgiving. Sometimes you can arrive at a track and it’s not working and you have to make big changes just to suit it’s demands,” said Davies, speaking at the track.

“Basically, our window is now quite small and we don;t have to go too far. Our understanding of when we are outside the window is really good so we can put it back in the window really quickly. We have so much experience now, I can tell the guys what we need to change and equally they can interpret really quickly.

“At the start of this year, I was having to race in a way I didn’t really want to and now I have a complete package. Last year, we went to Laguna, won both races and took pole position there. Then it was Malaysia, where we had a horrible experience in 2013, and they said we could win. I didn’t know about that with the big straights and it’s hard on tyres but and we ended up winning.

“The bike has come on so much, it is a title fighter at every circuit now. I think we are on a par in terms of speed with the green bikes for the first time ever. It’s not way, way quicker, but a tenth on every straight makes a difference.”
