Aruba Ducati’s Chaz Davies says the Ducati Panigale package he now has is capable of winning anywhere on the World Superbike calendar and the team is no longer confined to victory at places like Aragon and Laguna Seca.
Davies dominated the Imola weekend, leading every session, taking pole, winning both races and setting two fastest laps, and the Welshman now thinks he is a certain contender for this year’s championship.
In today’s race, Davies opted for the harder SC1 rear Pirelli which he had only tried in the opening practice on Friday and felt it was the safe option instead of trying to make the softr SC0 last race distance.
“I didn’t know how today was going to play out as I had only tried this tyre on Friday when the track was green and slippery, and completely different to what it was today. It was the safe option but not necessarily the fast option but I think it was the right option as the other one was a bit of a risk for the race,” said Davies, speaking at the track.
“We’re not only an Aragon specialist or a Laguna specialist now, we can win anywhere. At Phillip Island we were there with problems, at Buriram we were there with problems, Assen we fucked up with two different things in two different races, and here we smashed it again.
“I feel really good on this bike, I can feel when the front is going, when the rear is going, it’s like I am dancing on the bike. It goes, it comes back, it goes, it comes back, it’s what you want when you’re on the limit at every corner on every lap. I have got the feeling that I want.”
