Imola WSBK: Loose wheel weight scuppers Camier

MV Agusta’s Leon Camier had his second World Superbike free practice session scuppered when a loose wheel balancing weight came free and went straight through the radiator of his F4-RC.

The former British Superbike Champion had set the eighth fastest time in free practice one and was looking just to get in some laps in this afternoon’s second session at Imola but an engine problem on his humber one bike and then the holed rad put paid to his chances.

“It’s been frustrating to be honest. We missed most of the first session because the bike was pumping oil from the overflow system into the airbox, so that was the end of that. They started the bike for the second session and there was something wrong with that, so we reverted to the second bike so we missed the start of the session,” said Camier, speaking at the track.

“By the time I got out, it wasn’t running right, there was a problem. I came in, they thoght they had fixed it, I went out and it turned out the weight wasn’t glued to the rim properly and went through the raditator, so I had no laps.

“It’s a bit frustrating as we need the laps to get setup data. I feel like I can ride this bike fast straightaway I want to get everything good for the race. I can make up the difference in the race if the setup is right.

“I can hold my pace in the race but it depends on the setup. This is a good track for me and I know what I need to go fast but we need to be smarter.”
