Alvaro Bautista was caught up in two first-lap incidents at the first chicane during the Czech Republic World Superbike Round.
The Czech Republic World Superbike Round was another difficult weekend for Alvaro Bautista as he was caught up in two first-lap incidents.
After qualifying in tenth place, he was caught up at the first chicane in Race One and lost a lot of ground to the field. However, he was able to fight back and finished in fifth place.
Which was a result he repeated in the Superpole Race, after not having as eventful first few corners. However, in Race Two, despite starting further up the grid, Bautista was involved in contact at the first chicane again, but this time was knocked off his Ducati Panigale V4 R.
After being asked if he has bad luck at the first chicane, Bautista stated that 'it is not a matter of luck', because it was another rider than impacted him.
"It was not the best of luck, but in the end it was not a matter of luck, because it followed from another rider," Bautista told WorldSBK.com after being involved in a first-lap incident in Race Two.
"The bad luck was that it happened to me, but if it was not me, it would have been some other rider. Every time at this circuit, it could happen in the opening chicane; this year it happened to me twice, but last year it also happened to me twice.
"It seems like the first chicane and I do not have a good relationship. Anyway, I am physically ok, that is the most important thing."
Bautista is aware that there was always more risk of being involved in an incident when he started further back on the grid.
However, he was not expecting the same thing to happen after he started from fifth on the grid on Sunday afternoon.
"If you are starting from the back, there is more risk of these things happening," Bautista explained.
"Also, when starting from the front, I had the same thing happen. But in any case, in the Superpole Race I made a good start and I did not have any problems in the first chicane. In the second lap, I lost some gap and I think without the mistake I could have fought for the podium.
"We still gained a lot of position for Race Two, but in the end, it does not matter what position I start, I always find some trouble in the first chicane."
