Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli remains in the provisional pole spot after wet track conditions from rain overnight meant that only three riders set lap times during the second World Superbike qualifying practice session. The outing started off dry but then by the end of the 45 minutes track time it was raining in all sectors of the circuit.
Guintoli’s team-mate Eugene Laverty was one of the three riders to clock a lap time. He only went around the Istanbul Park track three times, and ended the session with his best lap of 2’28.857.
Red Devils new rider, former MotoGP contender Toni Elias also went out. He braved the slippery track, but completed six laps, and his best time was a 2’19.839.
But it was wild card rider, Yunus Ercelik who was the fastest in the final qualifying practice session this morning. The racer set a 2’10.144 and completed more laps than any other rider, a total of nine.
As the track was wet, the main title contender’s of Guintoli, Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes, and GoldBet BMW’s Marco Melandri did not leave their garages. But all the riders yesterday made it into Superpole, and no one out paced the best time set by Guintoli yesterday of a 1’56.190.
