Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli could only come away from the World Superbike weekend in Turkey with one podium finish, and was unable to out pace rival, Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes in both outing’s today. The Frenchman was setting incredibly fast lap times yesterday, but could not emulate that fast pace today, and the rider thought that there was ‘still missing something’.
Guintoli is recovering from an injured right shoulder, and is still experiencing a lot of pain, but he did improve from his fourth place finish in race one to end the day on the third step of the rostrum. But the third place he took in the final race doesn't entirely satisfy Guintoli, and the Leicestershire based lad is still not sure if the issue was the bike, or himself.
“Two strong races, but I'm still missing something. I'm not sure if it's speed or my physical condition. To be honest I expected more from this weekend after the good practice sessions and the front row start,” said Guintoli.
“It wasn't a complete disaster though since we're still close to Sykes and I got back onto the podium. Unfortunately my shoulder injury isn't a simple thing to overcome. On a track like this one with fast turns and cross wind, it hurt quite a bit. The next round will be at Laguna Seca which is a track I like and where I hope to make another step forward”.
